Though I was pampering an injured toe, I hobbled around Laumeier Sculpture Park this past Sunday for their 8th annual Harvest Festival. Local food, drink, and products, as well as live Bluegrass music highlighted the event sponsored by Sauce magazine.
It was a gorgeous day and many had chosen to bring their dog along, as is the custom I am told. The relaxed, sunny afternoon was perfect for grazing the food booths and mingling about the 116-acre park with the fascinating, over-sized art works.
I made my lunch choice based on the aroma coming from Pappy’s Smokehouse booth. This was my chance to get some of their award-winning barbecue without having to stand in a long line at their downtown location. After eating one of their pulled pork sandwiches, I now know why people are willing to wait.
The Bluegrass entertainers also had an appreciative audience that found seats on hay bales, blankets, or on the grass.
And, then there were the intriguing sculptures, that both young and old could enjoy. I couldn’t resist writing some captions for a few of the pieces:
Be sure to mark your calendar for the Harvest Festival next year and bring grandma, the kids and the dog.
