Okay, Stick with Me Here. . . .
At some point, during the holidays, after we’ve untangled the festive lights and decked the halls, we all need a break. There comes a time to surround ourselves with the things that give us solace. So I’m asking you to create an imaginary scenario, that would do just that for you.
Do not include people.
Here’s My Relaxing Scene
I’m seated by a toasty fireplace in a recliner, that has a heat/massage unit that pampers my lumbar region. On a nearby table is a plate with a Faidley’s crab cake from Baltimore Harbor, a scoop of my mother’s potato salad, a bourbon fruitcake cookie, and a cup of chamomile tea, all of which I down as Bing Crosby croons “White Christmas” in the background.
On the other side table, is a New York Times word puzzle and a well-sharpened pencil. I watch a gentle snow fall outside as I peruse a spring garden catalog. Snoozing at my feet is my granddog, Bella.
I can’t duplicate this bit of Christmas whimsy, but it is fun to imagine. Now you tell me your relaxing, dream scene for the holidays.
I’m lying on our living room rug, gazing up at the Christmas tree which is nothing but blue lights and tinsel which has been carefully put on, strand by strand, until the entire tree shimmers. The top is crowned by a single large star. Curled at my side is my cat Fizzywiggles. On the table is a mug of Throat Comfort tea with slippery elm, and a plate of thin ginger snap cookies. My favorite winter CD, Solitudes’ “Christmas in the Country”, is in the air. Other than the Christmas tree, there is only a stand of candles flickering in the fireplace. Ahhhh. Happy holidays to all.
