When Cyndy and I were in South City recently, we stopped for a burger at The Mack on Macklind. The neighborhood pub was pretty laid back at the noon hour with a few middle-aged women and families munching on sandwiches and fries. The Mack boasts of being smoke free and family friendly. The place seemed downright placid, though I suspect it becomes more spirited on Trivia Tuesday Night.
Pub Grub Delights
There were several unexpected bonuses to our lunch at the neighborhood watering hole. For starters, the menu featured Fried Macaroni Cheese Bites, which was a new item for me. They’re as crispy as Tater Tots on the outside, but creamy with mac and cheese on the inside. With the red dipping sauce, it reminded me a lot of Toasted (but meatless) Ravioli.
Lost My Touch
While we waited on our order, we eyed the Hoops game next to our table. Like a couple of kids, we couldn’t resist. So we inserted a dollar in the machine and shot a few baskets. Apparently, I’ve lost my keen eye over the years, so I didn’t do very well. But Cyndy was a champ!
Upon leaving, we came upon another novelty—a wooden telephone booth. Wow! The last time I saw one of those was in an old Superman movie.
Oh, yes, my hamburger was pretty darn good, too, as was Cyndy’s cod fish sandwich.
