My small Thanksgiving buffet for three included turkey, dressing, gravy, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, cranberry relish, roasted Brussels sprouts, kale salad, and cherry pie with whipped cream.
Say Adios to Our First Covidian Thanksgiving
Well, we did it, my fellow foodies! We pulled off our first Covidian Thanksgiving. By using email, text messages, phone calls, Facetime, Zoom, and even cleaning out the garage, we made it possible to “gather” more safely. Hopefully, there’ll never be another Turkey Day as restricted as this one—ever.
A Promise of Better Times
So, on to Christmas. It may be more of the same, but, at least, we’ve had a trial run. By New Years we’ll be ready to kick 2020 down the steps and welcome a hopeful New Year.
Centuries ago, during bad times, God told Joel, the Old Testament prophet, “I will give you back the years the locust have eaten.” Well, the locust have certainly made a feast of 2020. But better times are surely on the way—a time when we’ll be able to eat together and hug each other once again.
Some Sweet Memories of Thanksgiving 2020

This Turkey Day dessert started with picked and pitted cherries from Beth Pike and her husband Frank. The cherries, packaged this summer, have been waiting in the freezer for this day.

Drats! I made a mistake in my lattice work. I put one strip on bottom that should have been on top. Oh, well, no one complained.

Perfect with a dollop of freshly whipped cream.

A Post-Thanksgiving Treat

I shared this big pot of turkey soup with friends helping to replace floor boards on my deck. I served the soup with cheese-jalapeño cornbread and fig preserves sent to my from Sally, a friend in Georgia, who grew the fruit.
Looking to a New Day

Anytime you can open the kitchen window when it’s nearly December is a good day.
