Hearth Room Cafe is located next to Saettele Jewelers in the Lamp & Lantern shopping village.
I made a run out to Town and County recently. That’s a little off my beaten path, but I needed to pick up a necklace being repaired at Saettele Jewelers. The long-time Clayton icon moved in August to the Lamp & Lantern shopping village. While I was there, I went next door to eat at Hearth Room Cafe. The cozy restaurant has the feel of a rustic tea room, a place where you could easily linger over dessert.
At 1 p.m. nearly every table was full, mostly with women of a certain age. I was in the mood for a juicy hamburger and Hearth Room delivered on a Kaiser bun with all the trimming and a heap of their home fried chips. I was drawn to the soup of the day: cauliflower and cheese, but I demurred. It was such a hot day. My mistake was in not looking at the dessert menu. Just as I paid my bill the waiter delivered two stunning coconut cream pies to the next table.
The breakfast menu is wide-ranging, mouth-watering, and suitable for any morning appetite. It might be just as well that I live 20 minutes away from Hearth Room. I fear it might become a great excuse to give up home cooking.
