Strike out the cake and candle, Good Food St. Louis is celebrating its first birthday this month! I don’t know whether to call the occasion a birthday or a blogiversary. Whatever it’s called, the first year is important on the Internet, because 95% of new sites are abandoned within months, just left to languish on the door step of the blogosphere. So staying afloat among more than 30 million bloggers is noteworthy.
Good Food St Louis: A Kitchen of Dreams
Remember the catchphrase from Field of Dreams: “Build it and they will come.” Well, that doesn’t work with food blogging. It’s more like: “Share it and they will come.” That’s why I’m so grateful to all of you who have done just that. You’ve shared my posts and you’ve shared your comments and well wishes. You help make the dream come alive.
I know now why blogs go belly up so soon; it’s hard work, especially food blogging. It requires skills in photograph, recipe testing, food research, programming, writing, social media and marketing. In a one-woman operation, it’s hard to be adept at all of those, so I sometimes reach out for help, especially on the technical side. Even so, I’m having great fun sharing food adventures with you from my farm, in the city and during my travels.
As we head into our second year, I don’t want to think of it as the “Terrible Twos,” (I remember those of my kids and grand kids). I’m thinking of the coming year as the “Terrific Twos” and another chance to enjoy good food with family and friends.
I’m ready to blow out the candle, eat the cake, and get to work on the coming year.
