Adding a bit of green to a pizza gives a feeling of moral superiority.
The Street Scene
Hemingway said that Paris was a “moveable feast.” But you might describe my Mother’s Day weekend as “feasting while on the move.” It all started Saturday afternoon in The Loop, sharing a Pi Pizza with Robin and JC while soaking up some rays after a long winter of hibernation. (Kudos to your serving team, Chris, they know how to keep your customers happy!)
Then it was time to lounge poolside with the granddaughters. More sunshine and more food, but, this time it was fresh fruit.

“The Stretch” isn’t just a Cardinal pitching position

The last bite of a mighty fine salad.
A Grand Meal on Grand
Sunday—Mother’s Day—our clan gathered for my lunch of choice: Vietnamese. Banh Mi So #1 on Grand has an item on the menu named after our family. Their signature dish, the Carnahan Roll, is a spring roll stuffed with fresh vegetables and a bit of tilapia. You don’t want to know how many of these little flavor bombs our family has eaten over the last 15 years to earn this designation.
We followed the meal with a Ted Drewes frozen custard from their Grand location just a few blocks south.

While we waited for our order, I played string games with Addie.

Using hand motions, Robin explains the various sizes of the ice cream cups.

There was a lot of sharing of flavors.

Crowning the Day!
Then, crowning the day, I got to hold my new granddog!
Yes, Russ and Deb have their third Newfoundland. We thought nothing could replace good ol’ Dinah or Brigus, but this new puppy is trying mighty hard. My dog, Beaumont, (son of Brigus), died when I lived at the Governor’s Mansion. He’s buried on the lower lawn next to the rock wall and marked by a small plaque.
It’s good to have a Newfy back in the family.

Can you believe this wiggling mass of cuddliness is just 8 weeks old!!! We won’t be able to hold her much longer. Her name is yet to be determined.

Dealing with a wiggle wart AND a photo bomber.
