I get to Columbia several times a year, the most significant trip being for the presentation of the Gov. Mel Carnahan Public Service Award presented by UMC’s Harry S Truman School of Public Affairs. The event takes place on, or near, Mel’s birthday each year.
The 2020 awardees were Angela Drake, Direct and Supervising Attorney of The Veterans Clinic, MU School of Law. Roberta Broeker, MoDot Chief Financial Officer for 12 years. Warren K. Erdman, executive vice president for administration and corporate affairs for Kansas City Southern and former chief of staff for Sen. Bond. Julia Goldman, student scholarship recipient.
Congratulations to all for exhibiting the high ideals of a true public servant.
New Space for the State Historic Society
The event was held this year in the Center for Missouri Studies, that opened last August in Columbia. The space houses the State Historical Society’s research center, conservation lab, bookstore, and art gallery. Since 1898 the group has gathered, preserved, and published material related to Missouri History.
