I always thought it would be fun to be in Italy for Milan Fashion Week. To sit on the front row and watch glamorous models parade the season’s new look. Alas, the closest I may ever get is the Gents! St. Louis Designer Showcase, that I attended Thursday night. It was a delightful and well-attended event in the spacious showroom of Mungenast Lexus. The show was well produced by Brainchild Events with proceeds going to the Animal Protection Association.
The evening showcased creations of local designers, including Paulie Gibson, Isaiah Jenkins III, Christian Michael, Mister Guy Men’s store, and Nina Ganci of SKIF International.
As you well know, not everything you see on a fashion runway shows up on the clothing racks at Macys. Fashion is sometimes more cutting-edge art than wearable attire—like concept cars, that are not meant to be driven. Still, it’s quite possible the work of these talented designers could inspire a new curve, cut, color or fit in the creative and very competitive fashion industry.
As might be expected, there were some funky outfits, others with voluminous collars, tunic length shirts, and minimal coverage, as was the colorful, skin-tight underwear modeled by hunky male models. (This being a family food blog, I didn’t include the photos.)
As you can tell from the pictures, I’m not into fashion photography. Unlike food—which doesn’t move while you fiddle with your camera—models are here, there, and gone. This blog post is just a taste of fashion; I promise to return to food quickly.
