These make-ahead Party Sandwiches are welcome at any event. (From Sweet Potato Pie)
Truth be known these handy ham-cheese sliders are most often called Funeral Rolls in the South. That’s because they’re perfect for feeding a crowd, quick to make when needed, and heavenly to share. The yummy little flavor bombs not only comfort the grieving, they enhance picnics, church carry-ins, reunions, and tailgate and block parties.
15 Minute Prep Time
It all starts with Hawaiian rolls, sliced through the middle, and loaded up with deli ham and Swiss cheese. The taste punch comes from the glaze made of butter, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire, brown sugar and onion powder that’s poured atop the rolls before baking. To forgo any chance of sogginess, use real butter—-margarine has a high moisture content.
Best of all, the sliders can be made ahead. Just wrap the prepared dish in foil and refrigerate for several hours or, preferably, overnight before baking.
If need be, you can keep the sandwiches warm in a Crock-pot. For variety, try subbing deli turkey and Provolone for the ham and Swiss.
