A warm welcome awaits both dog and owner at the new Bar-K.
A Doggie Meet Up
By popular demand, I’m writing more about Bar-K Dog Park and including photos of my recent visit with my grand dog, Bella. Call it a Doggie Dude Ranch, or Canine Country Club, or a Pet Oasis, the 2-acre hound haven is providing an unique spot for people and pets to socialize.
Bar-K began in Kansas City in 2018 and opened its second park in November in The Grove at 4565 McRee Avenue. Another outlet is planned for Oklahoma City. Annual membership runs $225 a year and $50 for an additional dog. Monthly payments and visitors passes are also available.
All the Amenities
So what do owners and pets get with their membership. Services include such goodies as:
- large and small dog parks
- day camp, grooming, training, and—are you ready for this—doga (doggie yoga)
- dining room (no dogs allowed)
- 3 bars (2 inside and one outside)
- live music events and free wi-fi.
- adoption center
- events, such as New Years Eve party and puppy night out
The place is spotless due, in no small part, to the prompt, pooper scoopers, who keep the place tidy and odor free.

There’s a lot of wandering about by both owners and pets.

On the outside, the place looks like a bank with a quirky sign.

Russ points out the many features of Bar-K park as Bella, his Newfoundland, romps with playmates.

The pet menu is imaginative and looks doggone delicious—almost good enough to share with your pup.

If Fido likes first-class Peanut Butter Biscuits, this is the treat to buy.

Doggie Risotto for the pooch with discriminating taste.

Every good dog (and owner) deserves dessert.

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food on the dog owners’ menu. These chicken tenders and fries were quite good.

“Paws” for refreshment.

The fully-staffed park includes 10,000 square feet of indoor dog park. Don’t have a dog? No problem. Visitors are welcomed for free. But to bring you dog, you must be a Bar-K member or purchase a guest pass.
What about Cat Care?
If you’re thinking of setting up a cat cave or a cat cafe for felines, forget it. Dogs are social; cats more likely to be neurotic. They prefer sleeping to cavorting with strangers.
What aa ingenious convergence of activities and eateries for dogs and their humans. It certainly looks like it’s made-to-order for Los Angeles areas as well. Perhaps called Bar-K CA9? I’m going to send them a note and see if they have any thoughts of coming West. Lucky Bella!
Just attended Brewhound in Jacksonville. So fun. In entire life I’ve never seen anything this amazing. Only for head over heels dog people! The, had Rufferees
Rufferees! Dog-gone Goofy. If I ever get to Jacksonville, I’ll go to Brewhound. Thanks, Karla!
