A Malaysian lunch buffet
All in the Family
A few weeks ago Chef Bernie Lee had visitors from Malaysia—his parents and brother. The family got to see Akar, Bernie’s hip, new restaurant on Wydown. For the occasion, Bernie invited a few friends to share some of Mom’s home cooking.
You could tell after just a few bites, where Bernie got his flair for creating good food. I’m hoping his family will come to visit more often. When the Lee’s are in the kitchen, good things happen!

Along side his parents and brother, Bernie describes the dishes he loved as a child and that his mother cooked during her visit.

Akar is small (seats 12) but cozy, comfortable and friendly.

Mom’s chicken curry was one of my favorites of the lunch.

Janet Park samples the noodles.

Tastily prepared pork belly.

A tangle of noodles good enough for a meal by itself.
