Vin de Set takes its name from the phonetic spelling of the French number “vingt dix-sept,” or 2017, their address on Chouteau.
With fall coming on, Cyndy and I agreed there would be fewer and fewer days to eat outdoors. With that reasoning in mind, we recently picked Vin de Set for lunch, the French bistro with the roof terrace and partial view of the Arch.
The day turned out to be hotter than we expected. But, by golly, we came to dine on the roof and dine we did! Like the proverbial “mad dogs and Englishmen,” we would not be deterred by the noonday sun. While others ate inside, we sat determinedly outdoors, beneath overhead fans.

In the spacious old warehouse, there’s room for dining, drinking, meetings and events.
Vin de Set is housed in the Lafayette Square neighborhood, on the edge of downtown St. Louis. A trip to Southern France inspired proprietors Paul and Wendy Hamilton to rehab the building, turning it into an upscale, award-winning restaurant. The brick walls and exposed wood highlight the interior, as does the lofty cupola, soaring ceilings and arched windows.
For Goodness Sake
The creative cuisine at Vin de Set is based on a commitments by the Hamiltons to being green and sustainable. Many of the ingredients used in the kitchen are grown in their urban farm/orchard and hydroponic/aeroponic green house.

This classy menu is an ode to the foods of Provence. Their award-winning Sunday Brunch is on my bucket list.

You don’t need a beret, bike and baguette to feel the French connection at Vin de Set.

You can see a portion of The Arch on the skyline. The view, the vibe and the classy cuisine are enough to bring you back all year round.

Lots of soupy goodness going on in this Broccoli Bisque.

The Chicken BLT was scrumptious and perfectly paired with this zippy salad.

Whacky poster art adds merriment to the dapper decor.

View of the roof dining space from the park lot. The Hamiltons own another restaurant in the hip Lafayette Square neighborhood: 1111 Mississippi (named for its address) serves Tuscan-California cuisine.
