
Using the timer on my phone and a selfie stick, we took this photo while sitting on my condo deck. After a number of hilarious attempts, I suggested that we should be looking at each other instead of the camera. So we did, though by then it was hard to control the laughter.

When Russ went down to south Missouri last weekend, he brought back some tomatoes and peaches from Campbell—considered the Peach Tree Capital of Missouri. This time of the year, (late July or so), the freestone peaches start to come in. Compared to the cling stones, they’re easier to peel, slice and eat and better for pie baking. I think they’re sweeter and juicier, too.

If you’re thinking of driving to the Bootheel to fetch you some tree-ripened, velvety-skinned peaches, there are roadside stands before you get that far. But I’ve heard they’re sold at Dierbergs, too, but I’ve not check that out.

Bader’s, the 1000-acre orchard in Campbell, proudly claims to pick, pack and have their product in grocery stores within 24-hours. The peach season is short in Missouri, so enjoy them while you can.

When Russ delivered his peachy purchases to my condo, he brought along Bella, my year-old grand dog. But when the 125-lb. Newfoundland tried to push her way into the picture, we put down the selfie stick and gave up.
