After lunch at The Shack
Sorry, Don Ho. But if you’ve ever been to The Shack in Frontenac, you’ll never “wanna go back to my little grass shack in Kealakekua, Hawaii.” The St. Louis breakfast-lunch eatery works hard to live up to its name. You get the idea the place is trying to be a bit offbeat as soon as you walk in the door.
To begin with they encourage you to write on the tables and walls—they even give you colored Sharpies to do it with! Surprisingly, the graffiti-based decor gives the place a warm, homey feeling—especially if you’ve ever had a room decorated by a three-year-old with a Crayola.

There are lots of cozy corners at The Shack
The Shack Brings on the Smiles
The capricious theme continues with the menu offerings such items as Cereal Killer, a shake laced with booze and the Mother Clucker, a waffle slider with fried chicken, pepper jack cheese, slaw, bacon and chipotle aioli. There’s an overloaded burrito called Make a Grown Man Cry and a salad named Don’t Touch, It’s Mine, apparently, because it’s too good to share. A croissant stuffed with sausage links, scrambled eggs and cheese served with hash browns is labeled Why the French Hate Us.
Five St. Louis Locations
Yes, they’re having fun at The Shack with the menu, decor and atmosphere. The idea is to create the feel of a neighborhood pub for the morning hours. Dinner is not served, but you can get breakfast and lunch from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
With the restaurants of Clayton, the Loop, and the Central West End often crowded for weekend brunch, it’s good to have another choice, especially one that serves upscale food at reasonable prices in a family friendly setting. The Shack has five locations: Frontenac, O’Fallon, Chesterfield, Creve Coeur, and Valley Park. (Addresses can be found at bottom of this post.) Head for the one near you. Grab a “Sharpie” and immortalize yourself on one of their surfaces. Sit back and enjoy.

Fish Tacos and Brussels Sprouts

Cyndy’s selection from the “healthy” side of the menu: Brussels ‘n Egg. It’s a combo of egg whites, onions, green and red peppers, chicken sausage, and sprouts topped with Parm and served with side of fruit.

You can have this anytime of the day at The Shack. It’s called Why the French Hate Us, a croissant loaded with sausage, egg, cheese and hash browns.

“The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls.” At The Shack, it’s customer’s names are written everywhere. Don’t bother scribbling profanity or stupid stuff, because any such inscriptions are regularly removed with an orbital palm sander.

Wow! They’ve been busy!
