With tasty memories, I submit my 2018 list of the best dishes I’ve eaten at St. Louis area restaurants. I did an earlier post on the first six months of the year, in which I included the following:
- Sorrentina (Giovanni’s Kitchen)
- B.L.A.T. Sandwich (Russell’s on Macklind)
- Dewberry Dessert (Vicia)
- Sizzling Eggplant (Cate Zone)
- Baba Ganoush (Ya Ya’s EuroCafe)
- Italian Chopped Salad (Charlie Gitto, Chesterfield)
- Green-Apple Celery Mousse (Elaia)
- Mahogany-Glazed Spare Ribs (Billie Jean)
- Mango Fluffy Ice (Corner 17)
Below are my additions for the last half of the year. They’re in no particular order, but each was particularly memorable.
Ice Cream Pie (Tony’s)

This signature dessert at Tony’s is perfect for sharing, as you can see my friends and I are doing just that.
Tilapia Spring Rolls (Banh Mi So #1)

I find these totally irresistible and on my best list every year.
Grilled Carrots (Benevolent King)

Okay, my photo of these luscious carrots was blurry, but this shot of chef/owner Ben Poremba was quite bright. The incredibly flavorful dish gets a pleasant zing from the Aleppo pepper, yogurt, elderflower vinegar, and chili oil.
Chicken Salad (Crown Candy KItchen)

The menu at Crown Candy wreaks with nostalgia and goodness. This simple chicken salad sandwich is magnificent!
Lobster Enchiladas (Yellowbelly)

Yellowbelly gets two picks for 2018: Lobster Enchiladas and their Crispy Brussels Sprouts (shown below)
Crispy Brussels Sprouts (Yellowbelly)

Inspired!
Butternut Bisque (Ritz-Carlton)

Butternut bisque with crispy duck prosciutto, toasted pumpkin seeds and creme fraiche take the chill off the coldest day.
Fried Chicken (The Blue Owl, Kimmswick)

Eating fried chicken with the trimmings in the quaint riverside cafe at Kimmswick takes you back in time with its classic table setting and home-style cooking.
Bella Napoli Salad (Cafe Napoli)

The Bella Napoli salad of mixed lettuce, red onions, hearts of palm, artichoke hearts, and Parmesan packs a wallop at Cafe Napoli.
80-Proof Cakes (Sold at Piccione and Straubs)

Chocolate Vodka Cake and Rum Cake from Bola’s 80-Proof Bakery. Unbelievably delicious and a perfect alternative to fruitcake for the holidays. Bola also makes an Irish Whiskey cake that’s on my list. Available at Straubs (by the slice and in half-cake size) and at Piccione Bakery on Delmar. Pricey, but luscious.
Sugo Crudo (Milque Toast)

Milque Toast has such a fun menu. It’s hard to pick just one item, so it’s best to share. A sugo crudo is a raw (uncooked) tomato sauce served mid-summer.
Hipster Fries (Grand Tavern by David Burke)

These jazzed up fries are a must at the new Grand Tavern by David Burke located in the Angad Arts Hotel.
Fall Salad (Acero)

There’s a lot of good things going on in this Fall Salad: Brussels sprouts, radicchio, pear, kale, cherries, walnuts, pecorino, and walnut vinegar.
