Clayton Broadens It’s Culinary Horizons
If you’ve been anywhere near Clayton recently, you know you have to dodge construction sites all over town. The place is beginning to take on the air of a mini Manhattan with its high rises, traffic jams, and tony new restaurants.
With the exit of J. Buck’s steakhouse, a widely acclaimed national chain, Capital Grille, took up residence on South Hanley. It’s their 58th site, so they must be doing something right.
My son, Tom, and I along with several out-of-town guests had lunch there recently. The place was packed and no wonder: the meat/seafood menu is hip without being overpriced and the handsome decor makes for stunning, yet relaxed dining.

Crab-Lobster Burger and Parmesan Truffle Fries
Jason, our server, said one of his recent guests had asked for a knife to cut the large portion of lobster in her soup. He was proud of that. I understood what he was talking about after ordering the Crab/Lobster Burger, that bulged with chunks of whole seafood. As Jason pointed out, in addition to the generous servings, their seafood is flown in fresh and has never been frozen.

Cobb Salad with Sliced Tenderloin and Mustard Dressing.

Burrata and Balsamic Glazed Pear. I was also intrigued by the roasted honey-balsamic pears and replicated it at the farm from a recipe I found online.
