My son sent me this photo of 8 wild turkeys he “shot” today at the farm—with his iPhone camera, that is. Some say these birds are as tough as shoe leather and gamey tasting. That’s true of some of the old turkeys, but a jake or jenny (young male or female), that’s not overcooked, is quite tasty.
No matter. The flock is safe on our farm this year, since I’m ordering a free-range bird for Thanksgiving already dressed and ready for the oven.
(Apologies for the diminished photo quality. The picture above was taken through a window some distance from the birds. You can’t sneak up on wild turkeys. They may be pea-brained, but they instinctively sense any unusual activity.)
