I was having dinner with some friends, when it came time to order dessert one of them asked: “Have you ever had a mudslide?” At first I thought the conversation had leaped to a discussion of California’s seasonal terrain shifts. When I looked confused, she quickly clarified. “I’m talking about a Mudslide Milkshake,” she said.
Well, that got the attention of our table, as only the word milkshake can do.
“Come by the house and I’ll make us milkshakes for dessert,” she said.
Now I suppose everyone, but me, has had a Mudslide Milkshake, but in case you haven’t, here’s my friend’s recipe. She finds it a useful way of handling an occasional excess of bananas. Before they get mushy, she removes the skins and freezes the whole banana to use in the Mudslide. This great summer treat has a mere 5 ingredients and takes only 5 minutes to make.
Recipe for Mudslide Milkshake
- 1/2 cup Bailey’s Irish Cream liqueur
- 1/4 cup chocolate vodka
- 1 pint good quality coffee ice cream
- 1 banana, sliced and frozen
- 2 Tbs. natural cocoa powder
Freeze banana at least 1 hour before using. Add all the ingredients to a blender, putting the frozen banana in last. Blend on high until smooth, about 2 to 3 minutes. Pour into glasses and sprinkle with more cocoa powder. Serves 2 to 3.
