One of the great outdoor eating areas in the CWE—in all of STL—is Bar Italia. From beneath the tented patio with the overhanging cherry blossoms, guests celebrated the rites of spring this past weekend. One of those rites is the senior prom. A long table of well-polished, well-behaved teenagers added a festive look. One kid was wearing a purple vest, which caused my daughter to recall going to a high school prom with a guy wearing a banana yellow tux and ruffled shirt. It was cutting edge attire in the late 70s. I noted—to their amusement—that in the 50s, wearing a maroon cummerbund and thin bow tie with a tux was considered avant garde.
Having dealt with prom nostalgia, we moved on to the menu. Our server was patient, engaging, knowledgeable, attentive and suave. About one-in-a-hundred servers scores on all those points. When it happen, it adds immensely to the dining experience. The chef delivered as well. Bar Italia has had its ups and downs since opening in 1983, but the kitchen has been on a roll in recent years.
As you can see below, a picture is worth a thousand words. It was a good evening: good food, good service, good companions. What more could you ask?
