Bonefish Grill opened its Brentwood location about six weeks ago. I’ve tried to get in a few times, but the wait was too long. Recently I met a friend for a late lunch and the timing was perfect. Now I’m not a food critic—I consider myself a food encourager—but I always check on line before I eat at a new place to see what the restaurateur is attempting to accomplish. Then I look to see how well they succeed.
The Bonefish website said my taste buds would be “ignited.” That’s certainly true of their signature dish, Bang-Bang Shrimp, which comes as an appetizer, taco wrapped, or tucked into a Po’ Boy. The Atlantic Salmon with Mango Sauce delivered as well. The Florida-based eatery opened in 2000 and now has more than 300 locations, one in Kansas City. While they specialize in wood-grilled fish and seafood flown in fresh every day, the menu indulges carnivores as well. And for those wanting a bit of wine with their meal, thirty different varieties are available by the glass, assuring the diner a match for any dish.
All is served up in a space that seats 300, including the bar and patio. Two private dining rooms seat 32 each and open to seat 64. The website had said to “prepare for the unexpected.” I was prepared for just another fish house chain and was pleasantly surprised that the restaurant’s well-designed lighting, seating, menu and décor made for such delightful dining.
