When I read about The Picadilly at Manhattan in the St. Louis Magazine recently, I knew I had to try this place. Tucked away in the Ellendale neighborhood of Maplewood, it’s a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the venture.

Every restaurant has its own feeling, an atmosphere that you sense upon entering. At The Piccadilly you immediately feel at home. The place is neat, comfortable and accommodating. The chatty staff and clientele make you feel welcome and the menu heightens your taste buds for the home cooking soon to follow. Owners Nick and Maggie Collida serve up the old classics, including pot pies, fried chicken, smoked ribs, trout and fish. Their barbecue is continually ranked among the best in the area. No argument there.
It’s been a long time since I’ve had fried chicken this perfect and the blackberry cobbler was as good as it gets: not too sweet, not too runny, just right. Sign me up for the fan club.

The Piccadilly at Manhattan, 7201 Piccadilly Avenue. Open: Tu-Sat. 11a-10p. See menu.
