A middle-aged guy packing my groceries recently said he read my blog. I was so pleased to hear that and expressed my appreciation. Then I asked if he had a favorite go-to recipe. His face lit up. “Yes, he said. “I make Skillet Beef Noodles.”
“Tell me about it,” I said, starting to get out a pencil and paper to write it down.
“Well, first I brown me some hamburger. And while that’s cooking, I boil up a handful of noodles and add ’em to the skillet.”
Then he leaned over and lowered his voice.
I listened intently, ready for the secret ingredient.
A big smile came over his face as he whispered: “Then I throw in a big chunk of Velveeta!”
How funny! I had just read a similar “recipe” from a chef. He told of fixing such a concoction for his family, but with a bit of garlic, Worcestershire and milk to thin the cheese.
Yes, we all have our quick, go-to favorites. In that spirit, I’ve pulled together some of my favorite No Recipe Needed concoctions. Some have fewer than three ingredients (not counting salt/pepper). Click on title or photo for a printable recipe.
